Two people are killed in German shooting spree as gunman 'runs amok' before fleeing

Two people have been killed in a shooting spree in a town in west Germany with the gunman now on the run, police have said.

The victims - a man and a woman - were found shot at a house in the centre of Espelkamp with one inside the building and another outside, police have said.

Officers initially said the gunman had 'run amok' before fleeing, as police rushed to the town of 20,000 to try and find them.  

Local media report a huge police presence in town, with the centre on lockdown and a helicopter hovering overhead. 

Specialist SEK commando units are now on scene and looking for the attacker, officers added.
