The hope of both Akamai and AVIA is to highlight how some of the new trends in the video industry will play out over the coming year in Asia Pacific and how media organisations can position themselves for greater success in the new normal.
This at a time when streaming video services have grown rapidly over the last six years, and with billions already invested, there is little sign of this slowing down. According to a report by Media Partners Asia (MPA), the Asia Pacific online video industry grew revenue by 14% to reach $30.5 billion in 2020, mainly due to the lockdown which scaled the adoption of online services. Total online video revenues are projected to reach $54.5 billion by 2025.
Despite this forecasted increase in APAC revenue, subscriber growth is anticipated to slow in 2021, and the production of new content continues to be affected by the pandemic. Content distribution is now more fragmented than ever before, allowing consumers to watch any content over the internet on any device. Hence securing the right content for monetisation and protecting customer information across the platforms has become increasingly complex and a growing concern for the industry.
