KOLKATA: The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST), which has reached out to families affected by post-poll violence, on Wednesday urged the Bengal government to take immediate steps to stop atrocities against tribals in the state. An NCST team, led by commission member Ananta Nayak, received eight complaints since the assembly election results were declared on May 2 and has since toured Radhanagar and Narayangarh in West Midnapore, Jamboni in Jhargram, Kakora in East Burdwan and Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas. The NCST has received complaints about 16 houses belonging to ST community members in East Burdwan being recently set on fire. “It is essential that such violence is stopped immediately and the members of the ST community are brought to the mainstream of the society through several government schemes,” Nayak said.
