While Covid-19 cases have been decreasing in Bengaluru, the second wave of the pandemic has caused irreparable damage to thousands of families, claiming over 10,000 people in 89 days, an average of 121 persons a day.
BENGALURU: While Covid-19 cases have been decreasing in Bengaluru, the second wave of the pandemic has caused irreparable damage to thousands of families, claiming over 10,000 people in 89 days, an average of 121 persons a day.
The city on Tuesday reported 985 cases, and health and family welfare minister K Sudhakar tweeted that it’s reporting less than 1,000 cases after two months. According to his department, the last time the city reported less than 1,000 cases was 925 on March 18.
In 89 days, from March 18 to June 15, the city saw 7,84,733 infections and 6,98,412 recoveries. In all, 10,798 people succumbed to the virus, taking the city’s total toll from 4,537 to 15,335.
On March 18, the city had 8,122 active positive cases and on Tuesday, the total number was 83,195.
Across Karnataka, 232 persons died daily on an average during the 89-day period. Data revealed that 18,11,908 cases were reported at an average of 20,358 cases every day and 16,40,250 persons recovered at an average of 18,429 every day during the same period.
The total deaths went up from 12,415 to33,148, while positive cases jumped up from 9.6 lakh to 27.7 lakh.
