NAGPUR: City police chief Amitesh Kumar is now set to revive strict policing with the decline of the second wave of Covid, prompting cops to return to their routine with added vigour.
City police have organized an open complaint redressal forum at Alankar Sabhagruha at police headquarters at Takli on Thursday where the CP would interact with citizens with the dual purpose of addressing unresolved issues and also to gather information directly from citizens. While the camp may prove fruitful to many citizens dissatisfied with their pending issues or injustices meted out to them in the past, the event is also expected to be an acid test for many senior inspectors as the CP has invited information on illegal activities from across the city to be discussed openly.
Apart from complaint redressal, it’s learnt that Kumar also intends to introduce his team to citizens as Covid restrictions are gradually been withdrawn.
Most of the officers of Zonal DCP and Addl CP levels had joined city police amid lockdown last year. CP wants an ‘ice-breaking’ moment for his team with the citizens, most of whom are yet to know or meet these officers.
Kumar said the prime intention behind organizing an open forum is to address unresolved complaints with immediate effect and also to ‘get a pulse’ of the city after listening to the ground realities from citizens.
“Citizens can send their summary of complaint through WhatsApp (9923004995) or email (applicationbr1ngp@gmail.com) for us to remain somewhat prepared with the homework or else walk-ins too are most welcome. The aim is to address their issues in a jet set manner,” said the top cop.
Kumar said citizens are free to voice their concerns about goons in their localities, anti-social activities or any other issue. “The open forum with citizens would also help me diagnose the real problems of different localities. Anyone unhappy with the progress of any investigation or has been wrongly implicated or any complex or unresolved issues, cyber complaints, economic offences and all such problems are most welcome,” said the CP who vouched for immediate action.
Kumar said he is ready to sit out the entire day to listen to complaints and interact with citizens, provided the camp gets a good response. “I want to appeal to citizens to make the most of these kinds of pro-people initiatives where we can meet, listen and ensure justice as far as possible. All the complaints heard by me shall be marked to the concerned officers at the camps,” said the top cop.
