Swab samples taken from two temple elephants in Puducherry

PUDUCHERRY: Officials from forest and animal husbandry and animal welfare departments took nasal and renal swab samples from Sri Manakula Vinayagar Temple elephant Lakshmi and Tirunallar Temple elephant Prakriti Pranambika on Wednesday to test them for coronavirus infection.
The territorial officials decided to test the elephants for the infection after two lions at the Vandalur zoo in Chennai have succumbed to the infection in the last two weeks.
The samples would be sent to the Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh for testing.
