Khandwa: Family members of Mahendra Dhannalal Negi donated his body as per Negiís desire to donate his body to science.

Coordinator of Lions Eye donation, Body donation and Organ donation Janajagruti Samiti, Narayan Baheti said that Negi expressed his desire to donate his body to science while he was alive. Samiti members visited his residence and provide him entire details as well as completed all the formalities on October 26, 2018. Negi filed and signed declaration form in the presence of his son and grandson.

While handing over declaration documents to samiti members, Negi told them that, ìIts better that my body can be used for science instead of it being turned into the ashes after last rites.

Negi died on June 14 and after his demise his son Dharm Darshan and Satish Kotwale contacted samiti coordinator Narayan Baheti.

Baheti contacted Dr Anant Panwar, dean of Medical College and they completed all the formalities related to the body donation. With the special cooperation of Dr Panwar, the body was kept in District Hospital mortuary and corona examination was done. Both the tests of corona turned out to be negative.


On Wednesday at around 10.30 am, Negi's son Jayant Kumar, Manoj and Dharm Darshan and other family members and relative handed over the body to the doctors at the Khandwa Medical College. His kin and the medics paid floral tribute to the departed soul here at the college.

Samiti with the help of Lions and other social organisations regularly organises awareness programs. At their behest, many have signed resolution letters for eye donation and sent them to the cornea eye bank. So far, 106 body donation and organ donation declaration forms were filled at the behest of the committee.
