Sony's PlayStation VR successor is reported to arrive in time for the Holidays 2022. It will presumably be called PlayStation VR 2 but nothing is confirmed yet. The report is coming from Bloomberg that primarily discusses what is going on in the display industry featuring OLED and LCD display manufacturers.

The report says Sony is “aiming to release the successor in the holiday period next year". The next-gen PlayStation VR device is further said to feature OLED display panels supplied by Samsung Display. This is an interesting choice as many other VR players like Facebook and HTC are now shifting to LCD panels. It is because LCD panels are found to be more practical when it comes to higher resolutions even though they offer a lower contrast.

It was earlier this year when Sony officially talked about the next-gen PlayStation VR for the first time. It will undoubtedly be aimed at the PlayStation 5 which is the current-generation gaming console. It said, "players will feel an even greater sense of presence and become even more immersed in their game worlds once they put on the new headset". It will have an easy setup process with just a single cord along with improved ease of use. A few months later, it also showcased next-gen PlayStation VR controllers.

The announcement also made it clear that the VR headset will not be released in 2021. The newest report of the late 2022 release is certainly in accordance with that revelation. If we talk about other rumors, the PlayStation VR 2 is said to feature 4000 x 2400 pixels (2000 x 2040 pixels per eye) resolution. The majority of the details are a mystery at this stage but should hear more details as much as possible.
