Noida: Both Noida and Ghaziabad police are looking for the main accused involved in the theft of about 40kg of gold and Rs. 6.5 crore from a flat in Silver City society in Greater Noida.
Gopal, a resident of Loni in Ghaziabad, is crucial to the investigation because police suspect he had come to know that a huge amount of cash and jewellery had been stacked in the flat. The police believe the cash and valuables were unaccounted for. Around 13kg of the gold and Rs 57 lakh have been recovered from six of Gopal’s accomplices, who spilled the beans on the theft.
The gold and the cash allegedly belonged to Rammani Pandey and his son Kislay, who claim to be Supreme Court lawyers. While Rammani Pandey is untraceable, Kislay claims he is in the US. None of them had lodged any police complaint after the theft at the flat, which had been taken on rent by one of Kislay’s acquaintances.
ACP-1 (Noida) Ankita Sharma said police teams were trying to trace Gopal so that he could disclose how he managed to get information about the gold and the cash lying in the flat. “Gopal convinced a key-maker that the flat actually belongs to him and got him to open the door. They gave incorrect details to the guards at the entrance,” she added.
Soon after committing the theft, the accused left the society after keeping the bag of cash and jewellery in their car.
Additional DCP (Noida) Ranvijay Singh said they were in touch with the Ghaziabad police to nab Gopal.
“We are cooperating with Noida police. If they seek any information, it will be provided to them,” said Varun Pratap, the public relations officer for the Ghaziabad SSP.
