CHENNAI: The CB-CID of the Tamil Nadu police on Wednesday arrested self-styled godman
Sri Siva Sankar Baba, 72, from Delhi for sexually harassing students in his Sushil Hari International School at Kelambakkam on the outskirts of Chennai.
Baba, who was on a pilgrimage to Uttarakhand, was admitted to a private hospital in Dehradun. A CB-CID team led by deputy superintendent of police Gunavarman and inspector of police Jaisankar was at Dehradun on Tuesday to nab him. However, Baba managed to escape from there.
The police team trailed him by tracking the mobile tower locations of his associates and devotees as Baba doesn’t use a mobile phone. He was nabbed from Chittaranjan Park in Delhi on Wednesday.
Superintendent of police Vijayakumar and other officers and the cybercrime wing assisted the team to nab him.
The police were planning to bring Baba to Chennai by flight on Wednesday evening. He would be questioned briefly at a secluded place in the city before being remanded judicial custody on Thursday, police said.
The Mamallapuram all-woman police registered a POCSO case against Sri Siva Sankar Baba based on the complaint of the students and former students. DGP JK Tripathy transferred the case to the CB-CID. The CB-CID police have also registered a case against school staff members Bharathi and Deepa under nine sections of the IPC and the
POCSO Act.
The whole issue came to light, after many former students openly discussed and shared their harrowing experiences at the school and harassment meted out by the school founder Siva Sankar Baba through social media. Based on this, the Tamil Nadu State Commission for Protection of Child Rights issued summons to the school administration and conducted inquiries, which went on for about a week.
