- To celebrate Youth Day, Shivad Singh has partnered with SplashLearn to provide free maths software to teachers in South Africa.
- Singh, a News24 Young Mandela of the Future, wants to unlock that potential in as many learners as possible.
- The software aims to improve the quality of education and raise the standards of mathematics education.
Drawing inspiration from former president Nelson Mandela's words: "Education is the most powerful weapon that you can use to change the world," one of News24's very own Young Mandelas of the Future, has entered a partnership that offers free maths software to teachers to help local pupils master mathematical concepts.
"Just like how the Soweto Uprising laid the grounds for the release of Nelson Mandela and the end of the apartheid era, [we] hope that by giving free access to the...maths software...to teachers, it will pave the way for an improvement in learners' mathematics marks, said Shivad Singh, the founder and CEO of Head Start Education.
Singh said:
"If learners have a great education, they can ultimately be key members of our economy. Learners in need would be able to escape the cycles of poverty and be active participants towards the economic transformation of our country. I believe the only way you can maximise your potential and give off your best self to the world is first through education and then on implementing what you have learnt."
Singh partnered with the game-based learning programme SplashLearn and they offer the programme - worth R5 000 per teacher - for free.
It helps pupils from pre-primary level to Grade 5 master mathematical concepts that will provide a foundation to help them further excel at the subject in later years.
Singh added:
Singh started his education business when he noticed that friends were struggling to jump from high school to university.
"I always had that social entrepreneur element of using entrepreneurship and education to make positive change," Singh said.
