The Lok Janshakti Party chief Chirag Paswan on Wednesday wrote to the Lok Sabha Speaker against notification in favour of Paras as LJP leader. Challenging the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s decision to name Pashupati Kumar Paras as the LJP leader, he said it is contrary to provisions of his organisation.
In the letter, Paswan also informed Birla of the party’s decision to expel five MPs, who have joined hands against him and urged the Speaker to review the earlier decision and issue a new circular naming him as the LJP leader in the Lok Sabha.
Pawan wrote that since Article 26 of the Constitution of the LJP empower Central Parliamentary Board of the party to decide who would be leader of our Party in Lok Sabha, hence, the decision of announcing Pashupati Kumar Paras MP as the LJP leader in the Lok Sabha is contrary to provision of LJPs Constitution.
Soon after the announcement of removing Chirag Paswan from the Lok Janshakti Party president on Tuesday, Chirag retaliated by expelling uncle Pashupati Kumar Paras and four other MPs who have revolted against him for anti-party activities.
The group of rebel MPs said Chirag Paswan was removed as leader of the LJP parliamentary party on the principle of One Man, One Post.
The LJP had called a virtual meeting of national executive on Tuesday and removed the five rebel MPs from the party’s primary membership. The LJP said the five MPs were given notice but after they did not reply, they were suspended.
The five MPs — Pashupati Kumar Paras (Hajipur), Choudhary Mehboob Ali Qaisar (Khagaria), Chandan Kumar (Nawada), Veena Devi (Vaishali) and Prince Raj (Samastipur) —met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Sunday evening and again on Monday demanded to elect Paras as LJP parliamentary party leader. Late Monday night, the Lok Sabha Secretariat issued a circular confirming Paras as leader of the LJP in the Lok Sabha.
Paswan’s paternal uncle Paras has been elected as their leader by the five of party’s six MPs in place of him.
Both factions have now moved to control the party and project their group as the real LJP, founded by Paswan’s father Ram Vilas Paswan.
While the wing led by Chirag Paswan has expelled the five MPs from the party, the rival group has removed him as its president.
