A resident of a housing society in Mumbai’s Kandivali area has claimed that some people have scammed society residents on a large scale by giving them fake Covid-19 vaccines by organising a fake Covid vaccination drive inside the society premises.
As part of a vaccination camp at Hiranandani Estate Society on May 30, almost 390 residents in the society were administered Covishield vaccines. But later society members found that the online portal Co-WIN did not have any record of the people who took part in the vaccination drive and got vaccinated.
Residents said after being vaccinated they were given vaccination certificates from different hospitals like Lifeline, Nanavati BMC vaccination center etc. Later, when people contacted the hospital to confirm if they got the real vaccine or not, hospitals said they did not provide any vaccines to the housing society.
Residents said that a man got in touch with society committee members pretending to be a representative of Kokilaben Ambani Hospital, another person Sanjay Gupta coordinated the vaccination drive, while a third person, Mahendra Singh, collected almost Rs 5 lakh in cash from the society members. Residents stated that they were given vaccines at Rs 1260 per dose.
Hitesh Patel, one of the society members, said his son got vaccinated and he paid Rs 1,260 for a dose. Patel said usually people get messages after being vaccinated but they did not receive any messages. We were asked not to take photos or selfies while getting vaccinated, Patel added.
The society, Hiranandani Heritage Residents Welfare Association (HHRWA), has sought an investigation into the matter.

In the complaint, HHRWA said if the Covid jab is found to be fake, the people who got vaccinated will have a serious health issue in the future, therefore, there is an urgent need to investigate the matter and punish those who are behind such shameful act so that such fraudulent activities are not repeated at other places, the complaint added.
