Charlotte Hornets guard LaMelo Ball has been voted the NBA Rookie of the Year, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Ball, who averaged 15.7 points, 6.1 assists and 5.9 rebounds, had been considered the front-runner for the award despite missing 21 games with a broken wrist in a season that ended with the Hornets finishing 10th in the Eastern Conference and losing to the Indiana Pacers in the play-in tournament.
The Minnesota Timberwolves‘ Anthony Edwards and Sacramento Kings‘ Tyrese Haliburton were the other finalists for the award.
Last month, Ball became the first athlete to plan the release of a set of dynamic nonfungible tokens, which could change over time based on the guard’s accomplishments, such as the Rookie of the Year honor.
