Pioneer Woman personality Ree Drummond is speaking out about what led her to lose 43 pounds since the beginning of the year.

The Pawhuska, Oklahoma native, 52, opened up about her weight loss in a blog post Tuesday detailing her state of mind prior to dropping the weight, which she did with a detailed combination of diet and exercise.

'In January, just before I bit the bullet and took the leap, I was tired, puffy, and desperate ... and I knew I shouldn't be feeling that way,' the Food Network star said in a piece titled How I Lost Weight (More Importantly: How I Got Healthier!).

She said she was most 'motivated' by 'just wanting to feel better and have more energy.'

Drummond said the she had past made in vain attempts to weight loss such as fasting, personal trainers and fad diets.

Drummond said that 'a simple shift in mindset' was critical in fomenting the changes to her physique.

'I'd gotten so accustomed to excusing myself from working out because of my work schedule or travel schedule ... but during the past few months,' she said. 'I just chose to be late on a deadline or put off work until the next day so that exercise could happen.'

She said other effective techniques she incorporated included weighing her food, eating more protein, less sugar and forgoing alcohol, which going from a regular desk to a standing one.

Drummond said she prioritized to make 'exercise a regular part of my day, whether I walked with the dogs or did the rowing machine' and focused on weight training as well.

'I was absolutely pitiful when I started,' she recalled. 'I am a former ballerina but literally could not do a proper lunge without toppling over ... but I still did it, about four days a week to start, and laughed at my uncoordinated clumsiness every time.'

She said she hoped to inspire others in sharing details of her own path to better health.

'I just really want to share what worked for me ... It only took me 52 years to figure it out, but that's okay!' she said. 'I hope this helps you, whether in big ways or small. Remember that feeling good, realistic goals, being healthy, and having fun is the way to go!'

She wrapped up in saying that her 'experiences over the past few months have equipped me with real, doable tools that I feel like I'll be able to whip out whenever things get off track in the coming months and years.'
