KOLKATA: Trinamool Congress on Tuesday said Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar’s role was part of a “sinister conspiracy” by the party in office at the Centre who “unable to accept their defeat is spinning a web of conspiracy against the people of Bengal”.
Party Rajya Sabha chief whip Sukhendu Sekhar Ray said: “By making some baseless, fictional and ludicrous statements, they are trying to create an atmosphere as if Bengal has turned into an Israel-Palestine war zone.”
“It is not possible for me to know why he (the Governor) is going to Delhi. But a situation has been created for the first time in the country’s history that a Governor keeps speaking against the state government whatever he feels, day and night. He has thrown away all constitutional decorum, administrative norms and rules and is behaving only like a BJP spokesperson,” he added.
The party’s Lok Sabha MP Kakali Ghosh Dastidar said also sensed an “ulterior motive”. “The Governor has some ulterior motive as we find from regular tweets and his letters to the CM. The role of the Governor is to play as a facilitator between the Centre and the state, but he is burning the bridge between the two instead of bridging the two. I do not think he has any knowledge of the Constitution. He should abide by the Constitution and his role is clearly well-defined in the Constitution. But he often acts to the contrary. What he is doing is beyond his capacity as a Governor, so it is very much undesired in a federal structure,” she said.
Dastidar added: “He is not performing his designated role and thus while making comments against the state government. His position as Governor becomes untenable. He is taking briefs from other sources and not following the Constitution, which we oppose. His agenda is to create disturbance in the state and for that he is regularly tweeting, to keep the state government in an uncomfortable situation. He wants to constantly create trouble in the state.”
Kunal Ghosh, TMC’s state general secretary, said: “The Governor is going to Delhi. He can meet any one he desires, we have nothing to say as it is part of his design to create trouble in Bengal. His daily job is to tweet and create problems for Bengal.”
