Chennai, June 16 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin
today launched a scheme providing Rs five lakh financial
assistance in the form of fixed deposits to children orphaned
by Covid-19.
Mr Stalin launched the scheme at the State Secretariat in
the presence of his Cabinet colleagues and senior officials.
Under the scheme, children, who have lost both their parents
due to COVID, would be five Rs five lakh.
The amount will be put in a fixed deposit and would be give
to them with interest when they attained 18 years of age.
The government will also bear the educational and accommodation
expenses of such orphaned children till their graduation from college.
It will also make arrangements to ensure that priority is given to the
orphaned children to be accommodated in government homes for
children.
He also launched a scheme to provide Rs three lakh to children
who lost one of their parens to the pandemic.
Children who have lost their parents due to Covid-19 and are not
in government homes, but living with relatives or guardians, will
be given a monthly allowance of Rs 3,000 till they turn 18.
Mr Stalin had announced that a special committee will be formed
in each district to oversee the administration of the relief amount
given to such children and their education and growth.
