KALYAN: Khadakpada police arrested a 22-year-old man from Irani basti involved in 56 chain snatching cases in Thane commissionerate area. The accused has been identified as Abdulla Irani alias Sayyed. Irani was a part of mob who had attacked Vasai police during a raid to nab chain snatchers in February this year. In a span of just four years, Irani has been involved in 56 chain snatching cases in Thane commissionerate area, police said. Police also suspect that he may have committed outside the area also. They are contacting neighbouring police commissionerates from Thane and Navi Mumbai. Vivek Pansare, deputy commissioner of police (zone 2), Thane police said, "Our team arrested Sayyed from Ambivli and have seized 16 motorcycle and 64 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs 12.5 lakh." "The accused is involved in 56 cases of chain snatching, mobile snatching and motorcycle theft cases. He has been arrested before for many cases. He is presently facing charges for 21 cases," Anil Powar, assistant commissioner of police, Kalyan zone said. Ashok Pawar, senior police inspector of Khadakpada police station said, "So far in one year we have arrested 29 chain snatchers from Iranipada."
