Tamil Nadu: Dad beats girl’s stalker to death in Chengalpet

CHENNAI: Enraged over the harassment suffered by his daughter at the hands of a stalker, a 38-year-old construction worker beat him to death in full public view in Chengalpet on Tuesday evening.
Police said Rajesh, 22, routinely followed and harassed Dilli’s 16-year-old daughter whenever she ventured out alone. The Class XI student is said to have complained to her father at least thrice in the past, prompting him to warn Rajesh. But his warnings fell on deaf ears. When the girl was returning home from a grocery shop on Tuesday, Rajesh intercepted her and proposed his love, police said. The girl tried to talk him out of it but he went on to harass her. Shocked, she ran home, police said. Upon returning home from work to a distressed daughter, Dilli picked up an iron pipe and went in search of Rajesh. Hesoon found Rajesh and thrashed him with the pipe till he bled to death. A few witnesses tried to rescue the youth, but their efforts proved futile. As the crowd grew larger, Dilli tried to escape. However, he was caught by passersby and handed over to police. Rajesh was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. The body was sent for autopsy to Chengalpet GH. The Chengalpet taluk police have arrested Dilli for murder.
