GUWAHATI, June 15: The joint secretary of education in-charge of higher education cum joint secretary to the Governor will be appointed for improving the functioning of higher educational institutions, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said here on Tuesday.

The joint secretary will have his office both in the Janata Bhawan and in the Raj Bhawan, Sarma declared during a discussion with Governor Jagdish Mukhi at Raj Bhawan here.

This decision has been taken to establish a perfect coordination between the universities, colleges and education department.

Sarma called on the Governor and apprised him of several activities that the government is undertaking for the welfare of the people of the state.

During the meeting, among other issues, Sarma and Mukhi discussed issues pertaining to qualitative improvement of higher education. They talked on the need for improving the functioning of the universities and colleges of the state and the modalities to transform them into centres of excellence.
