Two days after mother and child were found dead in different parts of Pune, search continues for missing father

Several Pune Police teams on Thursday continued to search for the man whose wife and son were found murdered two days ago. The bodies of the 35-year-old woman and her seven-year-old son were found at Saswad and Katraj, hours apart, on Tuesday.

The woman’s post mortem revealed that she was assaulted while her son died due to strangulation.

Two separate offences of murder have been lodged at the Saswad and Bharati Vidyapeeth police stations under sections 302 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code.

Senior Police Inspector Jagannath Kalaskar of Bharati Vidyapeeth police station said, “We are searching for the missing man, whose son was found dead in our jurisdiction. Different angles are being investigated.”

The family, which is from Madhya Pradesh, shifted to Pune in 2007 for work. The woman quit her job a couple of years ago, while her husband worked as a manager with a private company in Pune. A senior police officer said the woman and her husband were upset as their son was suffering from Global Developmental Delay, a cognitive disorder.

Probe revealed that the man had rented a car for a few days to take his wife and son out for day-long trips daily from June 11. On June 14, they had left home in the morning for such a trip. Police suspect that they went to Saswad, where the woman was found dead the next day. Later, the father is suspected to have gone to Katraj area, where his son’s body was found.

Police said the man then went to Market Yard area, where he left his car in the early hours of June 15. In footage from local CCTV cameras, he is seen walking towards Swargate. Police found the car in the Market Yard area, and two iron pipes and some other items inside it. Police said there was blood on the backseat of the car.

A police officer, who is a part of the investigation team, said the needle of suspicion points towards the man who is missing.
