Central Railway observes International Level Crossing Awareness Day on June 10

In spite of Covid19 pandemic, Central Railway has eliminated 78 manned level crossings by way of providing road over bridges/road under bridges during the year 2020-21. This is the highest ever progress achieved on Central Railway. All 270 level crossings on Central Railway in Golden Quadrilateral and Golden Diagonal routes are planned to be eliminated by 2023-24.

CR has made infrastructural inputs like elimination of unmanned railways crossings to ensure safety of highest standards, converting unmanned level crossings to manned level crossings and construction of road over bridges/road under bridges/limited height subways in place of manned level crossings. There are no unmanned level crossings on Central Railway broad gauge line.

It has also taken various safety measures for prevention of accidents at level crossings by-

• Deputing Road Safety Counsellors at selected busy level crossings to alert the road users and also counsel them about their safety and train safety.

• Providing whistle boards for train drivers at approach of all level crossings.

• Arranging safety seminars and counselling at public places such as Bus stands, RTO offices, Schools and Village Panchayats etc.

Central Railway is utilising social media to spread the awareness and announcements through Public Address System, etc exhorting the users of level crossings to be alert, be safe and be responsible while using level crossings.
