Efforts are on to revitalise Gangaikondan ELCOT IT Park to provide jobs to youth, minister says

TIRUNELVELI: Tamil Nadu IT minister T Mano Thangaraj has said efforts are being taken to revitalise the ELCOT IT Park at Gangaikondan in Tirunelveli district. The park that was initiated by former chief minister M Karunanidhi had not seen any development during the last 10 years of the AIADMK rule, the minister said.
After inspecting the IT park on Monday evening, the minister said there are only two companies in the 500 acres SEZ. Chief minister M K Stalin had stressed on attracting more IT companies to the ELCOT IT Park to provide jobs to educated youth in the southern region, he said.
“We have taken efforts to attract IT companies here by simplifying the norms and providing them the necessary infrastructure. There are many educated rural youths in the region. These youths are employed in bigger cities due to lack of opportunities in the southern region,” he said.
IT-based skill development would be provided to the youth to make them ready as an employable manpower in the Gangaikondan IT park, he said.
Priority would be given to employ youth from Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Tuticorin, Kanyakumari and Virudhunagar districts in the IT park, he said. “Steps are being taken to provide jobs to youth who lost their IT jobs during the pandemic,” he added.
Tirunelveli district collector V Vishnu, MP S Gnanathiraviam, officials from the IT SEZ and representatives of IT companies were present when the minister inspected the premises.
