At the risk of rolling eyes with all of the purest types of coffee out there, I am what many call a “sublime” coffee drinker. When I see a menu with drink options like vanilla rose latte or honey hibiscus iced coffee, I wake up immediately (yes, even before caffeine is in my system). After all, a cup of coffee, if done correctly, can be a delicious pick-me-up, an all-encompassing sensory experience, and a moment of self-care rolled into one.

It’s also a habit that can get expensive very quickly. The usual price for a flavored latte is around $ 7 – that’s $ 210 a month if you make it a daily ritual. And as tasty as fancy lattes are, they are not exactly nutritious; the syrups are full of sugar, and when you combine them with the umpteen espresso shots, you see an impending sugar-slash-caffeine crash that will take hours to overcome.
