SURAT: Three persons of a family from Ankleshwar died in a gruesome car accident on national highway 48 in Valsad on Sunday night. The car’s owner Altaf Kachwala, his wife Rafat, two children and his sister Tasneem Merchant and her two daughters and Kachwala’s friend Yogesh Patel and his family had gone to Daman over the weekend in two separate cars. While returning from Daman, Kachwala lost control of the car near Gundlav on NH-48 while overtaking a truck and rammed into a light pole. Police said that while overtaking the truck, Kachwala changed lane at a high speed but as he lost control over the SUV, he first rammed into the truck then jumped divider and crashed into a light pole. The car was completely mangled but Patel and others on the highway helped bring the passengers out and called an ambulance. Even before the ambulance arrived, Rafat, eight-year-old daughter Mannat and Merchant’s daughter Khushi (10) succumbed. Other passengers were taken to Valsad Civil Hospital and Kasturba Hospital for treatment.
