Girl from Gujarat becomes sailor in US Navy

SURAT: Born and brought up in Ahmedabad, Netri Patel, 20, is now a sailor in the US Navy and will be preparing to fulfill her dream to become a fighter pilot. Studied in schools of Paldi and Bopal areas in Ahmedabad, Netri migrated with her parents Nirav and Doli to Columbus in Mississippi state of the US in 2015.
"We feel proud that our daughter and a girl from Gujarat will work in the armed forces in the US. Despite being a girl, she completed the 10-week tough training and got selected," said Nirav and Doli. Netri completed the training and her graduation ceremony was held on Friday. She is under further training at Chicago.

"Netri got selected as a sailor and She will try to become an officer. Her ultimate goal is to become a pilot," said Nirav. She was selected for a bootcamp in December 2020 and successfully completed training of 10 weeks. "She will study in computer science as her further training will continue in the Navy," Nirav added.

"Netri always dreamt of becoming a pilot and was preparing for it. After completing schooling, she is studying computer science in an undergraduate course. Meanwhile she got an opportunity to work in the US Navy," said Nirav.
