Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods Part 1--the first piece of a two-part standalone expansion--is now available on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo announced during its E3 2021 Direct presentation.
The Ancient Gods Part 1 picks up shortly after Doom Eternal's conclusion, with the Doom Slayer being recruited to reclaim Urdak from the demons following Hell's invasion. It adds several new hours of gameplay as well as more weapons to use, collectibles to find, and demons to rip and tear through.
This first DLC launched in October 2020 on all major platforms where Doom Eternal is available. It received a 7/10 in our Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods Part 1 review. "Despite some new and enduring weak spots, Doom Eternal's frantic combat (mostly) continues to shine through," critic Andrew King wrote.
It was followed by The Ancient Gods Part 2, which launched on March 18. That expansion received an 8/10 in our Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods Part 2 review. "In short, this is the most complete version of Doom Eternal and, aside from a terribly frustrating late-game boss fight, a consistently great note for Eternal to go out on," wrote King. There's no word on when The Ancient Gods Part 2 will hit Nintendo Switch.
Nintendo's E3 2021 Direct presentation came with several other big announcements, including The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's 2022 release window and a first look at Metroid Dread.
