With 60,471 Cases, India Reports Lowest Infections in 75 Days | With 60,471 new Covid-19 cases, India reports lowest infections in 75 days. 1,17,525 people were discharged and 2,726 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, the data from the Union Health Ministry showed.

38,13,75,984 samples tested for Covid-19, up to 14th June 2021. Of these, 17,51,358 samples were tested yesterday, Indian Council of Medical Research said in a statement.

Maharashtra Reports 8,129 Covid Cases, Lowest Since March 2 | Maharashtra on Monday reported 8,129 new COVID-19 cases, the lowest single-day count since March 2, taking the state’s tally to 59,17,121, while 200 more deaths pushed the toll to 1,12,696, the health department said. The rise in fresh coronavirus cases was the lowest since March 2, when 7,863 infections were reported in the state.

Under the existing vaccination policy that took effect on May 1, the Centre bought 50% of vaccines produced in India. These were used for a centrally sponsored free campaign aimed only at the 45-plus group, and healthcare and frontline workers. Vaccine-makers could sell 50% of what they produced directly to states (25%) and private players (25%).

From June 21, the free drive will cover all adults across states, thus making it necessary for the Centre to buy more doses (75% of what is made in India) for its campaign. A recent procurement by the Centre of 44 crore Covishield (25 crore) and Covaxin (19 crore) doses has been done at the current price of Rs 150 a dose.

Govt Likely to Renegotiate the Price At Which It Buys Covaxin, Covishield | The central government is likely to renegotiate the price at which it currently procures Covishield and Covaxin from their manufacturers, according to sources aware of the developments. At present, a single dose of both vaccines costs the Centre Rs 150. The government buys vaccines from Serum Institute of India (SII) — the maker of Covishield — and Bharat Biotech — the maker of Covaxin — at this price for its free vaccination drive for priority groups.
