Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A newly married couple allegedly committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan in Satna district late on Monday night, police said on Tuesday.
The reason that prompted the couple to take extreme steps, however, is yet to be ascertained.
The incident took place in Amin village under Tala police station of the district. The deceased has been identified as Shibbu Shahu, 30 and his wife Preeti Sahu, 23.
According to police sources, the couple had got married on April 30. It was an arranged marriage. Family members told the police that the couple had dinner together on Monday night and went to sleep. When they didn’t come out of their room till late morning, family members peeped into the room through a window and spotted them hanging from the ceiling fan.
On getting information, a police team rushed to the spot and sent the body for autopsy.

Superintendent of police (SP), Satna, Dharamveer Yadav said that no suicide note was found from spot. “The statements of family members have yet to be recorded. Shibbu, who was working as a truck driver, had left job and was staying at home. Prima facie, it seems to be a case of suicide, though we have yet to establish the reason that drove the couple to take this step,” he told Free Press over phone.
