Telangna Jana Samithi president M Kodandaram-led delegation submitting a memorandum to agricultural marketing director G Lakshmi Bai.
HYDERABAD: Highlighting the problems being faced by the farmers at paddy procurement centres, Telangana Jana Samithi president M Kodandaram has urged the state government to ensure adequate supply of tarpaulins, gunny bags, hamalis and vehicles among other facilities at the procurement centres.
A delegation of TJS members led by Kodandaram submitted a memorandum to agricultural marketing director G Lakshmi Bai on Tuesday stating the TJS strongly supports the paddy procurement scheme but its improper implementation was causing untold difficulties to the farmers.
The TJS teams visited procurement centres and found out several irregularities. “Farmers were being made to wait for 10 to 60 days before their turn comes up to sell their paddy. The delay on the part of the procurement centre officials has resulted in thousands of tonnes of paddy getting damaged due to rains, there is not even a tent or a canopy providing shade for the farmers to sit. There are no toilet facilities but farmers are made to wait for days together to dispose off their paddy,” Kodandaram stated in the memorandum.
