The Boone County Sheriff's Office says this picture shows a man pointing a gun into the face of a deputy.

Kentucky State Police said that a man injured in an officer-involved shooting early Saturday morning in Newport has life-threatening injuries, according to a report from Enquirer Media Partner Fox19.

The person shot in the officer-involved shooting in Newport Plaza shopping center in Campbell County was the same man accused of pointing a gun in a Boone County Sheriff's deputy's face earlier in the morning, according to KSP.

The man pointed a handgun in the face of a Boone County sheriff’s deputy early Sunday morning, but the deputy was able to push the weapon away. The man then pointed the gun at another deputy before fleeing, according to the sheriff's office.

A police pursuit ensued after Kenton County Police attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle matching the description of the one that fled the first scene, the Fox 19 report said.

The report said the suspect drove into the Newport Plaza parking lot, left the vehicle and shot at the officers, police say. Officers drew their guns and fired an unspecified number of rounds, hitting and wounding the suspect.

He was taken to the University of Cincinnati Hospital Medical Center, according to the Fox19 report.

No officers, troopers or members of the community were injured.

KSP Post 6 detectives and the KSP Critical Incident Response Team responded to the scene and are investigating, Fox 19 reported.
