The City of Tshwane now has 20 Covid-19 vaccination sites as authorities forge ahead with plans to inoculate the population amid increasing infections.
In a statement on Tuesday, the City announced that a second vaccination site had been set up in Mamelodi to enhance the vaccination drive for people are aged 60 and older. The new site is at the Stanza Bopape Community Centre.
"The City initially started with five official vaccination sites for Phase 2 mass vaccination, which were then increased to 19 in the last two weeks. The latest addition brings the total number of sites to 20. This is a remarkable milestone in the City's fight against this dreadful pandemic," the City said in a statement.

On Monday, Tshwane reported that there were more than 10 000 active SARS-CoV-2 infections in the capital city and that daily figures ranged between 1 300 and 1 700.
Tshwane Mayor Randall Williams said that, as of 14 June, active infections increased to 10 971, compared to the previous reporting week when the number of infections in the City stood at 6 492.
Williams added that the number of new daily laboratory-confirmed infections increased, ranging between 1 300 and 1 700 cases per day.
The following new daily infections were reported from 10 June:
• 10 June: 1 612 new cases
• 11 June: 1 612 new cases
• 12 June: 1 472 new cases
• 13 June: 1 767 new cases
• 14 June: 1 318 new cases
According to Gauteng's Covid-19 statistics, as of 13 June, Tshwane recorded 134 595 SARS-CoV-2 infections and 3 326 Covid-19 -related deaths.
