Man beats father for being a 'bad omen' in Ahmedabad

AHMEDABAD: A 35-year-old man from on Sunday beat his 76-year-old father while blaming him for bad omen after he lost his motorcycle keys.
Dinesh Patel, resident of Shukan City apartment in the New Ranip area, said in his FIR that his son and accused in the case, Varun Patel has habit of drinking alcohol and gambling and has been constantly harassing him for six months.
Dinesh said that Varun does not behave properly with him, so he began staying at his daughter's place. Apart from this, his wife too stays with another daughter in Mumbai.
Dinesh alleged that Varun usually keeps away money from him which he spends on booze and gambling.
"On Sunday afternoon, I was making tea and I asked my son to come home and have tea. Then, he told me that he was outside somewhere and could not come," said Dinesh in the FIR.
He said that after a while his son called him up and began insulting him using abusive language.
"Varun began abusing me and blaming me for bringing bad omen. He told me that he had seen my face in the morning due to which his work could not be done. Besides, he also told me that as I asked him for tea that brought bad omen," said Dinesh in the FIR.
He said that Varun rushed to the house after a while and began beating him. He called up his relatives for help who came there and pacified Varun.
After a while, they approached Sabarmati police and filed a complaint of causing hurt and uttering of abusive words against Varun.
