Vehicles lined outside a drive-in vaccination site in the capital
BHUBANESWAR: The drive-in vaccination sites in the capital city on Monday witnessed scenes of chaos with people alighting from their vehicles and forming queues. This marred the objective of the entire exercise, which was to prevent overcrowding by increasing the number of session sites.
When it had first begun, the beneficiaries would remain seated in the car and pull up their vehicles when their turn for vaccination would come. Cut to the present day, people come in bikes and cars, park them, get down and sit on a chair to be inoculated. It is like going to any regular vaccination site.
“Seeing the crowds, people returned from some drive-in sites without even taking the vaccine. I had gone to the KIMS Stadium hoping that I would be vaccinated without any hassle. But seeing the unruly crowd, I couldn’muster the courage to stay there though my second dose of Covaxin is pending,” Jatin Rathi, a resident, said. At some big shopping malls, which are also vaccination sites, people were seen coming out of the cars and waiting for their turn in front of the chair that was put up there.
According to the BMC’s initial plan, the beneficiaries should drive into the malls’ basement parking through the designated entrance and get shots while sitiing in the car at the basement exit.
