"On June 15 last year, Ladakh’s Galwan Valley witnessed a violent clash that between the Armies of India and China that shook the entire nation.
In the clash, 20 Indian soldiers were killed making it one of the worst clashes in 45 years. The clash led India to a military standoff with China. At least 11 rounds of military talks were made for the disengagement process.
Today, Indians have come together virtually to remember and honour those who died fighting for the Indian motherland and its citizens.
Honouring the slain bravehearts, Priyanka Chaturvedi, national spokesperson of the Indian National Congress wrote on Twitter, "To the 20 brave men who fought to safeguard every single inch of our land, who did not flinch to lay down their lives for their motherland, who gave China a bloodied nose in Galwan Valley, to them my utmost respect, salute and tribute. A grateful nation remembers."
Retired Major Gaurav Arya also took to Twitter to honour the late soldiers. He wrote, "They fought bare handed against a treacherous enemy at heights and temperatures where it is difficult to even breathe. Today in 2020, India woke up to a new name that will forever be etched in the collective memory of this nation. GALWAN. Jai Hind."
Here's how people are paying tribute to the soldiers who were martyred in the Galwan Valley clash.
