Chennai, June 15 (UNI) The V.O.Chidambaranar Port in Thoothukudi
has handled a single export consignment of 24 windmill blades of
length 77.50 metres, the longest of its kind handled through VOC
Port.
The Vessel ‘M.V.PAC Alcor’, with Length overall (LOA) of 199.9 m
was berthed at the Port on June 10 and the loading of the 77.50 m
long wind blades were carried out diligently, using Ship’s Hydraulic
cranes and Harbour Mobile Cranes of the Port.
The Windmill blades were safely transported by M/s. NTC Logistics
India Private Limited using specialized wind blade and tower
transportation flat bed trucks all the way from Sriperumbudur to
Tuticorin.
The long wind blades were stacked three high, conforming to the
safety standards and the vessel sailed from the Port on June 13
to the Port of Aransas, USA, an official release said here today.
The Shipper, M/s. Nordex India Private Limited, vessel agent, M/s.
B.S.V Shipping Agencies, and the Stevedore, M/s. Century Star,
appreciated VOC Port’s capability and efficiency in handling such
over dimensional cargo and assured their committed and continuous
support for further shipments.
On June nine, the Port had handled 84 Windmill blades of length
74.90 metres in a single consignment. The Vestas Windmill blade
manufacturer in India, M/s. TPA Industries, Chennai, shipped the
above consignment through VOC Port, for which M/s. DSV Air & Sea
Private Limited, were the handling agents.
The VOC Port is witnessing a notable surge in wind power components
hitting its docks by handling 423 Windmill blades and frames during this
financial year upto June 14.
During the last financial year, the Port had handled 4462 Windmill blades
and towers.
VOC Port Trust Chairman T.K.Ramachandran congratulated the Port
officials, Agents, Transporters and exporters for their continued
patronage in making VOC Port, the preferred Gateway for Export of
Windmill blades and Towers.
He also said that off late, the size of a windmill rotor blades is getting longer
and utmost care is being taken for the shipment of Windmill components.
