Kolkata: The tussle with the West Bengal Trinamool Congress government and Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar remained unabated on Tuesday. Before leaving for the national capital, Governor Dhankhar had sent a letter to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stating about her alleged ‘silence’ and ‘inaction’ towards the post-poll violence.
“I am constrained to observe your continued silence and inaction over post poll retributive bloodshed, violation of human rights, outrageous assault on dignity of women, wanton destruction of property, perpetuation of untold miseries on political opponents - worst since independence and it ill augurs for democracy,” read the letter which also had a mention that the Governor had expected that the Chief Minister will update him on post-poll violence and Cyclone Yaas.
In the letter the Governor also slammed the West Bengal police for not taking proper action against the violence.
The Governor in his letter has also mentioned about his visit to the violence affected area and urged the Banerjee to take up the issue of post-poll violence in the cabinet and to take all steps to restore law and order in the state.
Hours after the Governor send the letter to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and posted a copy of the same on Twitter, West Bengal Home Department on Twitter slammed the Governor for making public the letter sent to the Chief Minister.
“Government of West Bengal has observed with dismay and distress that the Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal has suddenly made public, a letter of his to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal, with contents that are not consistent with real facts,” read one of the five tweets.
Notably, ever since the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took her oath on May 5, Governor Dhankhar has slammed her for the ongoing post-poll violence.
Incidentally, according to Governor House sources, the Governor on his four day tour to Delhi will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and is also likely to meet President Ram Nath Kovind to inform them about the post-poll violence by the alleged TMC cadres in West Bengal.
