Mom Shares Clever Hack for Picking the Perfect Watermelon

There is nothing more refreshing than a juicy slice of watermelon, which is why you want to make sure you are not disappointed.

Picking out that sweet sticky fruit can prove tricky, and it can be very annoying to arrive home and find that your purchase is over ripe and has turned to mush.

However, a woman has recently shared her methods for selecting a perfect watermelon to TikTok, and we had never heard them before.

The video was posted on June 8 by Shannon Doherty, known online as @athomewithshannon.

She captioned the clip: "How to PICK THE PERFECT WATERMELON 3 easy hacks you need to know!"

So, what does it entail?

Well, sitting outside wearing a pink headband and a tie-dye T-shirt, the mom-of-four outlined three ways.

Speaking into the camera, with a large watermelon in front of her, Doherty said: "Did you know there is an art to picking the perfect watermelon?

"Well there is. So here is three easy hacks so you'll pick the perfect watermelon every time."

She then explained, while throwing the melon into the air, that: "The first is no matter the size of the watermelon, it should feel heavy, like super heavy."

Doherty then pointed to a yellow patch on the side of the fruit, saying: "Two, it should have a big yellow buttery spot on it like this one.

"See, I used to think this meant it's bad, but it's actually great."

For her final tip, the TikTok creator added: "Lastly, give it a thump. You want it to sound like a hollow plunk, that means it stayed on the vine extra long and it's really good."

She then tapped on the fruit, asking: "Hear that? See. Plunk!"

The clip has gained a lot of traction online, having been viewed over 157,400 times and garnered over 21,500 likes.

Many took to the comments section to share their appreciation of the mom's top tip.

One TikTok user, Sweetheart, wrote: "Thank u that's a really good tip."
