Rubanda: Man locks wife, children in house, burns them to ashes after misunderstanding

An enraged man who had misunderstandings with his wife and children had killed them by burning.

The incident took place on Saturday night when he locked them in the house and burnt them to ashes.

Kigezi Region Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed the development that took place in Habutobere village in Butare village in Muko Sub County in Rubanda District.

Maate says that the man identified as Armstrong Vian aged 45 bought petrol, locked his wife and three children in the house, set it on fire and the four were burnt beyond recogonition before he fled the area.

Maate identified the deceased as 43 year old Muheki Lovinah the wife to Armstrong, his 17 old son only identified as Edwin, his younger brother named Westlife aged 15 and younger sister Akira of 5 years.

Maate said that the residents told the Police led by Rubanda District Police Commander Echonga who responded to the incident that the family has been involved in wrangles for a long time after the accused married a second wife.

It’s reported that Armstrong was on Saturday evening seen buying petrol at fuel station, after which he proceeded to his home, locked the family inside the house and set it on fire.

It’s also reported that the suspect also locked a neighbor’s house to ensure that they don’t come out to rescue the victims in his house.

By the time the Police arrived, the fire had consumed the entire house and the lives of the four could not be saved.

Maate said that the Police have initiated investigations into the matter and the case of criminal activity of murder and arson was registered at Muko Police Station under reference number SD 15/12/06/2021 to help in further investigation.
