The ICC today inducted 10 icons of the game, including India’s Vinoo Mankad, into its illustrious Hall of Fame with two players each from five eras, dating back to cricket’s early days, making it to the list. Considered one of India’s greatest allrounders, Mankad played 44 Tests, scored 2,109 runs at 31.47, took 162 wickets at 32.32. The inductees are Aubrey Faulkner of South Africa and Monty Noble of Australia for the early era (pre-1918), Sir Learie Constantine of West Indies and Stan McCabe of Australia for the inter-war Era (1918-1945), Ted Dexter of England and Mankad for the post-war Era (1946-1970), Desmond Haynes of the West Indies and Bob Willis of England for the ODI era (1971-1995) and Andy Flower of Zimbabwe and Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka for the modern era (1996-2016).

Faf recovering after suffering concussion in PSL

South African batting star Faf du Plessis today said he was back from the hospital and “recovering” after suffering a concussion during his team Quetta Gladiators’ Pakistan Super League (PSL) match against Peshawar Zalmi here. In trying to save a boundary, du Plessis collided with teammate Mohammad Hasnain during their match on Saturday night. Following the freak accident, the former South Africa captain lay prone on the ground for a few minutes while the team physio attended to him. Du Plessis eventually got on his feet and walked back to the team dugout before being taken to hospital for scans.

Lahiri cards 70 to lie T-45 after rain-hit third round

Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri endured another roller-coaster round but maintained his position with a 1-under 70 to lie tied-45 at the Palmetto Championship here. Rain affected the third round, too, and it could not be completed but Lahiri managed to finish his 18 holes with four birdies against three bogeys, which gave him a one-under total for 54 holes.

Chile’s Sanchez out of Copa America group stage

Chile forward Alexis Sanchez will miss the group stage of the Copa America due to a leg injury, the national team said in a statement. The 32-year-old was diagnosed with a muscle problem on his foot after training on Friday and will not travel to Brazil with the rest of the Chile squad. Agencies
