Chhattisgarh: Oxfam India to set up two oxygen plants under mission 'Sanjeevani'

Although the Covid curve has flattened in most parts of Chhattisgarh, some parts of the state, especially remote areas are still battling to curb the coronavirus spread. Oxfam India under mission 'Sanjeevani' promises to provide help amounting Rs 6 crores to Chhattisgarh government in the fight against COVID-19. Under the mission, two Oxygen plants will be established in the state and the company will donate medicines, masks and other essential medical equipment.

Oxfam India began the process under mission 'Sanjeevani' by donating medical equipment and medicines to Chhattisgarh Health Department in the presence of the health minister TS Singh Deo on Monday.

Amitabh Behar, CEO, Oxfam India said that the COVID crisis was unprecedented, and Chhattisgarh has gone through a very tough time. "We will work with a focused approach with Mitanins, so that, in the wake of the third wave, we can fight it strongly", added Behar.

Looking at the health needs of the people, especially the necessity of oxygen, Oxfam India will install two Oxygen plants of 570 litre per minute capacity in two hospitals. "The preparation has already started in Wadrafnagar Civil Hospital to install one of the plants", Behar said.

At the newly opened Marwahi-Gaurella-Pendra hospital, medical equipment – Oxygen concentrators, Oxygen cylinders, BP machines, patient monitors, PPE kits are being supplied, an Oxfam India press release said.

Medical kits will be provided to 35 PHCs of the state in which, together with patient beds, essential medical equipment like oxygen concentrators, oxygen cylinders, BP machines, patient monitors, thermometer etc. will be provided.

This equipment will especially go to the areas of greater needs like the newly formed district of Marwahi-Gaurella-Pendra, where the health system needs to be strengthened, the Health Minister said.

Apart from donating these equipment we have donated dry rations to needy transgenders, tribal people and are also running COVID related awareness campaign, for eg, how to save yourself from infections, said Anand Shukla Regional Manager Oxfam India.
