Leopard trapped in a fence laid around an agriculture field in Raisen

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): It took around two hours for the forest team to rescue a leopard trapped in a fence laid around an agriculture field in Raisen district on Sunday. The crowd of onlookers had to be controlled by the police and forest officials.

The incident happened on intervening night of Saturday and Sunday when a four year old leopard got trapped in fencing while looking for prey in Sankal village in Ghairatganj tehsil of Raisen district.

Villagers came to know about it in the morning while taking their cattle for grazing. ‘We heard some sounds at night but we thought it was a routine movement of the animal. It was in the morning that the reality came to the fore,’ said Ram Kishan Adivasi, from the village.

The local informed the police and forest officials. The forest rescue team from Van Vihar, Bhopal reached the spot at around noon and it took over two hours to rescue to the trapped animal.

A ten member team led by veterinary doctor Atul Gupta first tranquilised the leopard and then transported it to Van Vihar rescue center. DFO Raisen Ajay Pandey, SDO Shweta Singh, ranger Rajnish Shukla and other officials from forest and district administration besides the police remained present on the spot.
