As the curtain rises for a new week, two of our biggest planets are having a dance night and the world is their stage. We spoke of this Saturn square Uranus transit as we prepared for 2021, but only had the doom and darkness of Aquarius-Saturn in mind. Our reference points for this financial seismic shift were the Taurian Uranus Squares of 1929 (the year the stock market crashed and led to the Great Depression) and March 2020 (global pandemic pandemonium, in case you needed a reminder). But luckily we have seen a different date of this place since then – and one that manifests itself in a much more prosperous way. The date? February 17, 2021. The story at this time? GameStop.

Thanks to users on platforms like Reddit and TikTok, this relatively thinly traded stock skyrocketed in late January. For some, GameStop was a first foray into the market, and many were hoping for a slice of that sweet money cake. But the trending stock’s price rose (known as a short squeeze), helping some “savvy” investors get rich quick while others lost hard.

When the stock was removed from popular Robinhood trading app in late January, ostensibly due to the platform’s concerns about market volatility, it sparked outrage over unfair and possibly illegal regulations. History took another eventful turn when pet dealer Chewy’s co-founder was named chairman of GameStop in mid-February and shares soared again. Finally, this modern David versus Goliath saga (from a low stakes stock to a heavy hitter) outlined the central theme of this Saturn square Uranus transit: what happens when new wealth storms over old institutions?

If there is a chance to redistribute wealth through innovation (which Aquarius-Saturn and Taurus-Uranus may ultimately pave the way for), these squares force the problem.
