Twelve people from the Venezuelan national football team, including players and staff, have tested positive for Covid-19, officials said on Saturday. The news came a day before Venezuela plays its opening match of the Copa America against host Brazil.

The health department in Brasilia, which will host Sunday's match, said it had been notified of the positive test results on Friday night by the South American football confederation, CONMEBOL.

"They are all asymptomatic, isolated in single rooms and are being monitored by the team of CONMEBOL and local specialists," said a statement from the health secretariat of the Federal District, which includes Brasilia.
