Denzel Dumfries headed a dramatic late winner to earn the Netherlands victory after Ukraine had come back from 2-0 down in a Group C thriller in Amsterdam.

Oranje boss Frank de Boer is hoping to use Euro 2020 to prove to fans he is the right man to lead the team into a successful new era after an unconvincing start in the role.

It looked like going to plan for De Boer when Georginio Wijnaldum, who scored eight times in qualifying, pounced from inside the box before Wout Weghorst's instinctive finish doubled the lead.

But Ukraine pulled one back through Andriy Yarmolenko's outstanding 25-yard dipping finish and, four minutes later, Roman Yaremchuk header the equaliser to silence the Dutch fans.

However, Dumfries' 85th minute header earned the Netherlands victory on their return to the major tournament stage after a seven-year absence.

Great game to watch, for any numerals, Netherlands should have been out of sight really. Two good goals
then some dodgy defending let Ukraine back in but good headed goal nicked at the death.

Well done to Holland and the Ukraine for a great evenings entertaining game of football , shame there had to be a loser but what a game. Both teams should qualify though, great. Better than the mainly sideways/backward passing dross served up this afternoon at 2pm. Good ebbening.

These 2 teams have so much pace and attacking creativity . I loved the start when both teams went hell for leather to score the opening goal . If England meet teams like this , it's another false dawn .

Plenty of goals for the fans. Holland off to a winning start. But still 2 goals conceded. Wc holders France,current no1 side Belgium and rejuvinated italy will have seen that.holland will need to tighten there defence against the heavy hitters or they will be punished.
