The new Skoda Octavia is with prices starting from Rs 25.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The fourth-gen executive sedan follows Skoda’s latest design direction, with styling more in line with the larger Superb, and is available in two variants – Style and the fully-loaded Laurin & Klement (L&K). Moving to under the hood, unlike the previous-gen Octavia, the new fourth-gen sedan is available solely with a petrol engine. The unit in question is a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol TSI unit that puts out 190hp and 320Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox as standard, sending power to the front wheels. Skoda claims a fuel efficiency rating of 15.81kpl for the model. The executive sedan segment has shrunk in the past few years, and with the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic exiting the market, the Octavia has only one direct rival – the Hyundai Elantra. However, in terms of pricing, the Elantra is notably more affordable, with the Hyundai priced between Rs 17.85-21.12 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The carmaker is now gearing towards the launch of its all-new Kushaq midsize SUV. Skoda recently announced that it had with a launch expected soon. The carmaker is also expected to launch the petrol Kodiaq in India later this year, as well as debut its all-new midsize sedan that will replace the current Rapid.
