India reports 84,332 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours, lowest in 70 days

4,002 Covid deaths recorded till 8:00 am on Saturday

India’s daily Covid cases fell further to 84,332 cases for the third straight day, lowest in the last 70 days, according to the Health Ministry data. India’s daily infections stood at 91,702 on Friday.

The Covid deaths in the last 24 hours till 8:00 am on Saturday stood at 4,002 adding up to 3,67,081casualties so far. Worldwide India stands third after the US and Brazil in terms of deaths due to coronavirus infection. 

Cumulatively, India reported 2,93,59,155 of which total active cases and recovered cases are 10,80,690 and 2,79,11,384 respectively.

It is to be noted that active cases decreased by 40,981 in the last 24 hours till 8:00 am and the recoveries are continuing to outnumber the daily fresh cases for the 30th consecutive day. The recovery rate has increased to 95.07 per cent.

Also, the weekly positivity rate dropped to less than 5 per cent at 4.94 per cent and the daily positivity rate stood at 4.39 per cent, less than 10 per cent for 19 consecutive days.

The total number of tests done during the previous day stood at 19,20,477. Now, the testing capacity has substantially ramped up to 37.62 crore tests.

Meanwhile India administered 24,96,00,304 vaccine doses with 34,33,763 shots given in the last 24 hours till 8:00 am. In the Phase 3 vaccination drive, 3.85 crore beneficiaries in the age group 18-44 got vaccinated so far and more than 20 lakh beneficiaries at 20,22,181 got their jabs during the previous day.
