Health Dept Gets Warangal Prison Ground

Warangal Urban: With the decision of the state government to build a super specialty hospital on the premises of the Warangal prison to provide health care to the people of North Telangana, the prison department moved its prisoners within a week and gave the land to the superintendent of Mahatma handed over to Gandhi Memorial Hospital (MGMH) on Thursday.

Rajiv Trivedi, Director-General of Prisons and Correctional Services, said on Telangana Today: ‘The process of moving the prisoners started on June 1 and we were able to complete it by moving more than 900 prisoners, in addition to the hand over whole machinery from the prison to the ground to the department of medical and health, ”he added.

Meanwhile, the MGMH superintendent dr. V Chandrashekhar said on Thursday he received the documents of alienation of the 56.36-hectare land from Superintendent Santhosh Kumar Roy in prison. He then wrote to the Superintending Engineer (SE), the Department of Roads and Buildings, asking him to demolish the buildings. “The process of demolishing the structures, including 98 barracks, in addition to the main gate and staff quarters, was completed on Saturday afternoon,” he added. According to the sources, petrol stacks located on the prison grounds and in the possession of the prison department will continue to operate.

“Since Prime Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao wanted to build the super-specialty hospital for the benefit of the people of North Telangana at the earliest, we are taking all steps to complete it within a year,” said Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao. The 1,500-bed hospital will be an annex to Kakatiya Medical College (KMC). The buildings of the MGMH will be demolished as soon as the new hospital is taken into use to build a Mother and Child Hospital (MCH) on the premises. The MGMH is spread over 26 hectares and the MCH will be on the line of Niloufer Hospital in Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, sources said that Prime Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is likely to lay the foundations for the super-specialty hospital in Warangal and a modern central prison (250 million euros) on Mamnoor on the outskirts of Warangal on the same day. .

The relocation of prisoners

A total of 875 prisoners were moved to various prisons, while 20 open-air prisoners remained in Warangal to power the petrol pumps. It is said that the Maoist and other dreaded criminals have been moved to Cherlapalli (225) and Chenchalguda (116) prisons, and general prisoners to Nizamabad (148), Adilabad (58) and Khammam (152) prisons and women’s prisons. However, the prisoners (UT) were moved to the prisons in the former Warangal district.

The machinery and materials used for the manufacture of almiras and other products of the ‘My Nation’ scheme were moved to Cherlapalli and Chenchalguda prisons.

While Warangal Central Prison has 267 staff members, they will be transferred and given jobs if they are willing. The prison was established in 1886 on 65.4 acres.

A cabinet meeting chaired by the prime minister on Sunday ordered authorities to hand over the prison grounds to the health department by the end of the month. According to sources, the state government has already identified 120 hectares, at the requirement of 130 hectares, adjacent to the 4th TSSPC battalion in Mamnoor for the new central prison.
