The Government Railway Police (GRP) at Mumbai Central arrested a hearing and speech impaired person for allegedly fleeing with valuables of an engineer of the Indian Army. The engineer identified as Santosh Gaikwad, 35 was returning from Jammu and Kasmir and was resting at the railway station when accused Salim, 33 targeted him and decamped with his valuables.

Gaikawad a field engineer was posted at Shrinagar recently his leave of 20 days was approved. On June 5 he took flight to Mumbai from Delhi and later reached Dadar terminus to board a train for his home district Akola. Since his train was scheduled on the next morning, Gaikwad decided to wait on the bridged but doused off around 3 am, hours later when he got up he found his bag of valuables to be missing. He then approached GRP and lodged his complant, in the bag there were gold ear rings, mobile phone, smart watch total worth ₹ 28,150, said police.

During investigation we first collected CCTV footages of the accused, we developed the footages and found the gait of the accused to similar to that of Salim, a petty thief who has multiple such cases registered against him at couple of police stations, said an officer from the GRP.

On Friday we laid a trap near Bhandup station and took him to custody, we took help of a translator to communicate with him and recovered the gold earings and mobile phone from him. He was produced before the court on Saturday which sent him police custody.
