CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu higher education minister K Pondmudi on Saturday announced that admissions to polytechnic colleges will be based on Class IX marks in view of cancellation of Class X exams.
"We will follow the same admission procedure followed for Class XI admissions to enrol students in polytechnic colleges," the minister said.
The state government will soon start admissions to 51 government polytechnic colleges based on Class IX marks, he further said.
Last year, the Class IX annual exams were cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. So, the admissions are likely to be conducted based on marks in quarterly and half-yearly exams.
Polytechnic students who have lapsed time will be given another opportunity to clear their arrears. "Old students have to pay Rs 750 special fees and Rs 65 per paper to write these arrear exams," the minister said.
The admission to engineering colleges would be announced after evaluation criteria were fixed by the state government, he added.
